Media told about Biden's plans to announce a large-scale aid package for Kiev

The administration of US President Joe Biden plans to announce a large-scale aid package for Kiev. This was reported by the Associated Press (AP) on January 7.
Officials did not give the agency the exact dollar amount, but said that the package is expected to be "substantial."
However, they said, it will not include all of the roughly $4 billion remaining in congressionally approved funding for Ukraine. There is likely to be "more than a couple billion dollars" left that US President-elect Donald Trump's incoming team could provide to Ukraine if it chooses to do so.
A Defense Department official told the agency that the package, to be announced Thursday, would be drawn from existing stockpiles with the goal of getting most of the weapons promised to Ukraine in time for Trump's inauguration.
Earlier, on December 26, 2024, Duma deputy Alexander Tolmachev, in a conversation with Izvestia, pointed out that US citizens are tired of funding the Kiev regime. At the same time, he did not rule out that Washington's assistance to Kiev may end with the departure of the country's current president, Joe Biden.
On December 13, 2024, it became known that US President Joe Biden approved a package of assistance to Ukraine for $988 million. The coordinator for strategic communications in the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, noted that the United States would provide additional military support to Kiev "until the end of the term of office" of the Biden administration.
Prior to that, on December 8, 2024, Trump said that Washington would likely reduce military aid to Ukraine after the change of the US administration. The US president-elect added that Kiev should not expect military aid in the previous volume after his inauguration.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
