Over 129 thousand tons of sand contaminated with fuel oil were removed from the beaches of Kuban. This was reported by the Governor of the Krasnodar Region Veniamin Kondratiev on January 7.
He noted that employees of municipal administrations, rescue services and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as well as volunteers worked on the shore. To eliminate the consequences on Tuesday, January 7, were involved 6.8 thousand people and 650 units of equipment.
"Their efforts from the coast collected and removed a total of more than 129 thousand tons of sand with oil products," - wrote Kondratiev in Telegram-channel.
According to him, in Anapa and Temryuksky district the work to eliminate the emergency situation does not stop. The governor added that also 95 thousand tons of sand contaminated with fuel oil were taken to a temporary storage site in Voskresensky farm.
Earlier in the day it was reported that fuel oil stains were found near the coast of the resort city of Yevpatoria in the west of Crimea. The head of the city administration Alexander Yuriev specified that the utilities were ready for this situation and immediately began to eliminate the consequences. Before that, on January 5, oil slicks were found off the coast of Anapa and in the area of Kapsel Bay in Crimea.
On December 15, 2024, tankers Volgoneft-212 andVolgoneft-239crashed in the Kerch Strait due to bad weather. The incident resulted in a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels, one person died. On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group has been set up to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the accident.
January 2, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Transport said that 2.4 thousand tons of oil products had fallen into the Black Sea after the crash of the tankers.
Later, on January 3, in Sevastopol, at the entrance to Balaklava Bay, a fuel oil slick was discovered. It was reported about the risk of advancement of fuel oil after the crash, which is fixed to the north along the Crimean coast. As part of the work of the operational headquarters organized "breakdown of the territory" to clean up traces of oil products.
At the same time in Sevastopol declared an emergency situation mode (emergency situation) of regional character.
