Russian Iskander-M ballistic missiles have increased the vulnerability of Ukrainian Armed Forces' (AFU) armaments. Military Watch Magazine (MWM) reported on January 6.
"Iskander-M ballistic missiles have been used against Ukrainian surface-to-air missile systems since 2024 with great success and act as a force multiplier, significantly increasing the vulnerability of the AFU," the publication stated.
The magazine stressed that the warhead of this weapon can destroy almost any target - enemy command posts, columns of equipment, air defense complexes. The range of the missile reaches 500 km, added "Gazeta.Ru".
Earlier, on December 29, 2024, MWM reported that the first regiment of the Russian Armed Forces (AF) with the S-500 Prometheus surface-to-air missile system (SAM) threatens NATO's most important aircraft. The launchers for the S-500 system are capable of engaging targets at a distance greater than the S-400 and rival U.S. THAAD and Patriot systems. In addition, the Russian SAM system can fight satellites, space shuttles and intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Before that, on May 21, the US recognized the ability of the S-500 SAM system to destroy the West's most sophisticated weapons. It is noted that if Russia adds weapons to the arsenal, it could turn the tide of the conflict in Ukraine and provide Russian forces with a noticeable advantage.
The special operation to defend Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken amid an aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
