The C-Lion1 submarine telecommunications cable between Finland and Germany, which was damaged in December, has been repaired. The Finnish operator Cinia Oy said on its website on January 7.

"The break in the Cinia C-Lion1 submarine cable has been repaired and the direct submarine cable connection between Finland and Germany has been restored and is fully operational," the report said.

Four submarine cables in the Baltic Sea failed on December 25 and 26. Three of them were between Finland and Estonia, and one cable connected Finland and Germany.

The cause of the cable damage is still under investigation. The company has submitted a formal request for investigation to the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation.

On December 25, 2024, there was an emergency outage of the EstLink DC cable between Estonia and Finland. The following day, it was reported that the Finnish border guard and police stopped the Cook Islands-flagged oil-laden tanker Eagle S, which is believed to be involved in the cable breakage at the bottom of the Baltic Sea.

On December 31, seven crew members of the Eagle S tanker were banned from leaving the country. It was noted that the ban on the departure of the suspects was a precautionary measure against disrupting the investigation.

Later, on January 3, it became known that Sweden will send a ship to Finland to assist in the investigation of cable damage in the Baltic Sea. It was reported that the Swedish armed forces will involve in the investigation of the ship - a submarine salvage vessel HMS Belos.

On January 7, the anchor of the tanker Eagle S, which was detained in Finland on suspicion of cable damage in the Baltic Sea, was found at the bottom of the Gulf of Finland. The Finnish Central Criminal Police suspects that the ship's anchor may have cut the EstLink 2 electric cable between Finland and Estonia.
