The State Duma supported the idea of abandoning the bachelor's degree

The transition from bachelor's degree to basic and specialized higher education in Russia is the right decision. Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma, said on January 7.

"For our part, we will support the Ministry of Education and Science in the implementation of this issue. The development of the economy and technological sovereignty of our country depend on the quality of personnel training," Volodin said, his words are quoted on the website of the State Duma.

The Chairman of the State Duma believes that the transition to a new system of higher education will improve the quality of students' education.

Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Education and Science reported that Russian universities will switch to a new system of education from September 1, 2026, by which time the Ministry will develop and approve the necessary amendments to the legislation. At the same time, students who have already started studying under bachelor's and master's degree programs will be able to complete their education without changes.

Head of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia Valery Falkov, meeting with rectors of Russian universities at the meeting "On the preliminary results of 2024 and plans for 2025" on December 17 said that 2025 will be dedicated to the transition to a new system of higher education.

On December 5, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation approved a new procedure for admission to universities. According to it, priority admission to budgetary places on bachelor's and specialist programs should end by August 2-3, the main stage of admission - August 6-7, additional - August 10-11, and admission to paid places - September 30.
