Iceland transfers $30 mln to Ukraine for defense needs

Iceland has transferred $30m in financial aid to Ukraine for defense needs. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga said this at a joint press conference with his Icelandic counterpart Torgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdóttir on 7 January.
"The amount of aid that has been provided to the Ukrainian side specifically for defense needs is currently $30 million," Sibiga said in a video published on Facebook (owned by Meta, an organization recognized as extremist in Russia) by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
He added that he had discussed with the Icelandic foreign minister the possibility of increasing military production.
Earlier, on January 5, the leader of the French Patriots party, Florian Philippot, said that the European Union (EU) may soon stop military support for Ukraine because it has squandered resources to pay Kiev's expenses. According to the politician, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump could probably stop helping Kiev, and Europe would not be able to compensate for the reduction of the U.S. program.
On December 26, 2024, Duma deputy Alexander Tolmachev, in a conversation with Izvestia, pointed out that US citizens are tired of financing the Kiev regime. At the same time, he did not rule out that with the departure of the country's current president Joe Biden, Washington's assistance to Kiev may end.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of the Russian special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
