Police officers have detained a man who broke into a bank in the German town of Rimbach in the federal state of Hesse and took a man hostage. This was announced by the South Hesse police on the social network X (former Twitter) on January 7.

"The police operation has been completed," - stated in the publication.

It is noted that at the moment the hostage is under the protection of law enforcement officers.

About the penetration of a man into the bank and taking a hostage became known earlier in the day. The area around the scene was cordoned off, there were many police officers, including specialized emergency services.

Earlier, on January 3, in the central prison in the commune of Arles in the south of France, a prisoner took five people hostage - four medical staff and a guard. The captor turned out to be a 37-year-old man, since 2023 serving time for rape. It was also specified that the prisoner had pronounced mental problems.
