Putin offers condolences to Xi Jinping over Tibet earthquake

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to Chinese leader Xi Jinping in connection with the loss of life in the earthquake in Tibet. This is reported on January 7 on the Kremlin website.

"Dear Mr. Chairman, please accept the most sincere condolences in connection with the tragic consequences of the earthquake in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China," the Russian leader said.

He also said that Russia shares the grief of those who lost relatives and friends due to the natural disaster. In addition, Putin expressed hope for a quick recovery of those injured in the incident.

The earthquake occurred on the same day in China near the border with Nepal and Bangladesh. Underground tremors were recorded in the Tibet Autonomous Region. The epicenter was located at a depth of 10 km and at a distance of 63 km south-west of the city of Shigadze, which is inhabited by 80 thousand people.

Later it became known that as a result of the disaster in the county of Dingri collapsed more than 1 thousand houses. In total, because of the earthquake in Tibet killed 95 people, another 130 suffered.

At the moment there is no information about the presence of Russian citizens in the earthquake zone in the south-west of China. The Russian Embassy is actively cooperating with the Chinese authorities.
