Kobakhidze advised Macron not to lie about Georgia and Russia

French President Emmanuel Macron should keep an eye on Ukraine instead of lying about Russia and Georgia. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists on 7 January when asked about the French leader's recent statements.
This is how Kobakhidze reacted to Macron's words that Russia allegedly tried to destabilize the situation during the parliamentary elections in Georgia in October 2024.
"The French President should look at Ukraine, which was sacrificed to destruction. I am talking about what is the real problem. I cannot comment on lies. I am commenting on the problem that faces everyone, which is the destroyed Ukraine," he was quoted as saying by Channel One on Georgian television.
Georgia held parliamentary elections in October, which were won by the Georgian Dream. Former Georgian leader Salome Zurabishvili did not recognize the results of the vote, she was supported by three opposition political forces - United National Movement, Coalition for Change and Strong Georgia. For two days, on October 28 and 29, Georgia hosted an opposition march against the election results.
In 2017, Georgia officially abandoned the mixed system and became a parliamentary republic in which the president performs representative functions.
