President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said on January 7 that he did not hold on to power and considered it his advantage. He also emphasized that he would do everything to quietly hand it over to the new generation.

"I'm not holding on to power. I will do everything to quietly, calmly pass this power to the new generation. Because I hope to live under the new power, and you too,"BelTAquoted him as saying.

Lukashenko also noted the need to train young people to appreciate their native country.

"We need to prepare the younger generation. Our children, who will take Belarus in their hands and cherish and appreciate it. At least the way you and I - the current generation - have protected it and made this country sovereign and independent," added the President of the Republic.

Earlier, December 23, Lukashenko and first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party Sergei Syrankov were registered as candidates for the upcoming elections of the head of state.

In December 2021, Lukashenko said how he sees the transfer of power in the republic to the new generation. According to him, it is necessary to "put on the right rails" the generation of managers who will come to power.
