The death toll from the earthquake in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) in southwestern China has risen to 95 people, with another 130 injured. This was reported by Xinhua news agency on December 7.

"<...> After preliminary investigation as of 15:00 (10:00 Moscow time - Ed.) the earthquake killed 95 people, 130 people were injured," - stated in the publication.

Earlier it was reported about the death of 53 people and 62 injured. The Tibet Autonomous Region has launched a second-level response. Chinese President Xi Jinping, in turn, ordered to make maximum efforts to eliminate the consequences of the disaster.

The earthquake occurred on January 7 in China near the border with Nepal and Bangladesh. Underground tremors were recorded in the Tibet Autonomous Region. The epicenter was located at a depth of 10 km and at a distance of 63 km southwest of the city of Shigadze, which is inhabited by 80 thousand people.

Later it became known that as a result of the disaster in Dingri district collapsed more than 1 thousand houses. The Russian Embassy in Nepal said that there was no information about the injured Russian citizens.
