The crew of the Strela-10 air defense missile system (SAM) of the Dnipro group of troops has hit a drone of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 7.

The settlement scans the sky around the clock. As soon as any aerial object enters the area of responsibility that does not respond to the "friend or foe" request, the calculations take it on escort in readiness to eliminate it.

In the course of combat work, the calculation hit an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the AFU, which was conducting aerial reconnaissance.

"Proved itself well, all people are satisfied and praise its work. Mostly our targets are scouts like Leleka, Furia, Valkyrie, Backfire. Our calculus has hit everything but the Backfire. We have been hunting for it for a long time, but we haven't had a chance to catch it yet, but we will catch it sooner or later," said the commander of the squad with the call sign Dzhokonda.

The Strela-10 system is capable of destroying air targets at ranges from 800 to 5,000 meters and altitudes from 25 to 3,500 meters.

Earlier, on January 2, the grouping of troops "West" destroyed nine mortar units of the AFU during the day. In the course of repulsing nine counterattacks by the AFU assault groups, the Russian army eliminated more than 50 Ukrainian fighters and a T-72 tank.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
