At least nine people killed in magnitude 7.1 earthquake in southwestern China


An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 occurred in China near the border with Nepal and Bangladesh on Tuesday, January 7. This is stated on the website of the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
Underground tremors were recorded in the Tibet Autonomous Region. The epicenter was located at a depth of 10 km and at a distance of 63 km southwest of the city of Shigadze, which is inhabited by 80 thousand people.
As later reported by China Central Television(CCTV), at least nine people were killed as a result of seismic activity. It is also known about destroyed buildings. Information about the consequences is being clarified.
Earlier, on January 4, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 occurred in Ethiopia, it was reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC). Seismic activity was recorded 57 km from the town of Abomsa.
On the same day in Turkish Antalya there was an earthquake at a depth of 7 km off the coast of Alanya district. Its epicenter was also recorded there.
