Harris claimed to be fulfilling her duties after Trump's victory was confirmed

Current U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris made brief comments to reporters at the Capitol on January 6 after Congress officially confirmed Donald Trump's victory in the presidential election.
"Today was a very important day, it is about what should be the norm and what the American people should take for granted. It is one of the most important pillars of our democracy - the peaceful transfer of power. Today I accomplished what I have done my entire career, I took seriously the oath I have taken many times - to support and defend the Constitution of the United States," Harris said.
The vice president said she fulfilled her constitutional responsibilities to ensure that the voters of America were able to count their votes that determined the outcome of the election.
"I do firmly believe that American democracy is only as strong as our willingness to fight for it. Otherwise, it is very fragile and will not be able to stand in moments of crisis. And today, American democracy has stood strong," Harris noted.
Earlier in the day, the U.S. Congress officially declared Trump the winner of the 60th presidential election. Trump's victory was announced by his rival in the November 5 election, incumbent US Vice President Kamala Harris, who is the head of the Senate. The Republican's victory was approved without any objections.
The election for the 47th president of the United States was held on November 5, 2024. In the popular vote, Trump received 51% of the vote and Harris received 47.4%. Later, Trump, speaking to supporters, called himself the 47th president of the United States and said that his goal as head of state considers the end of military conflicts in the world.
On December 18, 2024, the U.S. Electoral College officially confirmed Trump's victory in the election. According to the final data, he gained 312 votes. Harris, in turn, received the support of 226 electors.
