Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has expressed condolences over the death of Metropolitan Chrysostomos, head of the retired Vilna-Lithuania diocese. His words on January 6 are quoted on the official website of the Russian Orthodox Church.

"May the Lord forgive the deceased Metropolitan Chrysostom's sins, both voluntary and involuntary, and may He create for him an eternal memory, as the Church prays, remembering every deceased Orthodox Christian," the patriarch said.

Metropolitan Chrysostomos died at the age of 91. He had headed the Lithuanian cathedra since 1990. After retiring in 2010 for health reasons, Chrysostom withdrew from any public activity.

It is specified that the funeral of Metropolitan Chrysostomos will be held after the liturgy on January 8, after which he will be buried in the archdiocesan crypt of the Holy Spirit Monastery in Vilnius.
