Trump has again proposed that Canada become the 51st state of the U.S.

US President-elect Donald Trump, after the announcement of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's resignation as head of the ruling party, again offered this country to join the United States as the 51st state. The corresponding statement of the Republican published on his page in the social network Truth Social.
"A lot of people in Canada like being the 51st state. Justin Trudeau knew that and resigned. <...> If Canada merged with the US, there would be no duties, taxes would be much lower," Trump wrote.
He pointed out that Canada, to stay afloat, needs a lot of subsidies and a trade deficit that the U.S. suffers from. In addition, if Canada became the 51st state, it would be protected from various external threats. The president-elect emphasized that Ottawa and Washington together would make a great nation.
Earlier in the day, Trudeau said at a press conference that he intends to step down as leader of the ruling Liberal Party of Canada and leave the post of prime minister of the country when the political force chooses a new leader.
Prior to that, on December 3, Trump said during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that the country could become the 51st state of the United States if Ottawa fails to address illegal migration and drug smuggling.
Later, on December 10, the president-elect of the United States said Canada and Mexico could become U.S. states. The CBC television channel reported on December 17 that Canada would spend $900 million to secure its border with the United States.
In addition, during his Christmas address on December 25, Trump promised to halve taxes for Canadian citizens if Canada becomes the 51st state of the United States. In addition, in this speech, the president-elect wished Trudeau a Merry Christmas, calling him not the prime minister, but the governor of Canada.
