The U.S. Congress officially declared the President-elect of the United States Donald Trump the winner of the 60th presidential election. The meeting of the joint session of lawmakers was held on January 6, broadcast on the website of USA Today.

The election for the 47th president of the United States was held on November 5, 2024. In the popular vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, while Harris received 47.4%. Later, Trump, speaking to supporters, called himself the 47th president of the United States and said that his goal as head of state considers the end of military conflicts in the world.
On December 18, the US electoral college officially confirmed Trump's victory in the election. According to the final data, he gained 312 votes. Harris, in turn, received the support of 226 electors.
At the same time, on January 6, CNN reported that on that day the United States will be hit by a storm with record snowfalls for 10 years. Reaching the central parts of the country, bad weather led to the formation of snowdrifts 35 cm high. The speaker of the lower house of Congress (House of Representatives), Republican Mike Johnson, commenting on the storm, urged members of the House of Representatives and the Senate not to leave Washington because of the weather and attend the session in Congress, because it is required by the law on counting votes.
