National Bank of Ukraine raises dollar to hryvnia exchange rate to historic maximum


The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has raised the exchange rate of the dollar against the hryvnya to a historic high. This is evidenced by the data published on the regulator's website on January 6.
It is specified that the official rate of hryvnia per $1 increased from 42.088 to 42.195.
Earlier, December 17, 2024, it became known that in Ukraine the dollar to hryvnia exchange rate reached a historical maximum. "Speculators" tried to raise the price higher and put the currency for sale at 41.92 UAH/$. At the same time, according to experts, the hryvnia will end 2024 at the level of UAH 42.10/$.
Prior to that, on August 19, Capital Lab partner Eugene Shatov said that the Ukrainian national currency may weaken to UAH 43-45 per $1. He recalled that in mid-February 2022, the hryvnia/USD exchange rate was approximately 29.5. In his opinion, the weakening is likely to continue.
On June 10, Rada MP Daniil Hetmantsev said in an interview with The Telegraph that Ukraine was preparing proposals to raise taxes. He emphasized that the situation might reach an unscheduled devaluation and hryvnya emission.
