Roskomnadzor named the reason for mass disruption of Internet services in Russia

The mass disruption of Internet services in Russia was caused by an accident on the backbone network of one of the telecom operators, but it has already been eliminated. This was reported in the press service of Roskomnadzor (RKN) on January 6.

"The cause of mass failure of services was an accident on the backbone network at one of the telecom operators. As of 14:00 the accident has been eliminated, the work of services is being restored," the agency said in a statement, as reported by TASS.

Earlier in the day, users in Russia faced failures in the work of a number of Internet services, as evidenced by the statistics of their complaints on the site for tracking failures Downdetector.

Users experienced the greatest access difficulties when trying to work with telecom operator MTS, with the number of complaints totaling 6,178 at the peak moment (13:00). The failure affected mobile and home Internet, most of the problems people had in Moscow and the Moscow region.

In addition, there are also difficulties in connecting to Google services: within an hour Downdetector recorded about 1 thousand complaints about access to the site of the search engine and other products of the company. Most often the problems were faced by residents of the Sverdlovsk region.

In addition, there are failures in the online cinema KION, social network "VKontakte", messengers Telegram and Discord, operator Rostelecom, search engine "Yandex" and game distribution service Steam.

Before that, on January 1, Telegram users complained about failures in the messenger. In particular, mobile applications did not work correctly, notifications did not come. The greatest number of problems were reported by users from the Leningrad, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod regions.
