Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has demanded to punish those responsible for the death of citizens of the country in the crash of an airplane near Kazakhstan's Aktau. This is reported by Report.az on January 6.

"We demand justice, we demand punishment of the guilty, we demand full transparency and human behavior," he said at a meeting with families of the crew members killed in the crash and surviving flight attendants of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL).

According to Aliyev, the plane crash could have been avoided.

A passenger plane of AZAL Airlines, heading on the route Baku - Grozny, crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau on December 25, 2024. The Ministry of Transport of Azerbaijan named the preliminary cause of the crash as outside interference. After the incident, a criminal case was initiated. Kazakhstan attracted 17 international experts to investigate the crash.

According to the airline's list, 62 passengers and five crew members were on board. A total of 38 bodies were found at the crash site. Of the crew, three people survived. Seven Russians died in the airplane crash, nine Russian citizens survived. Later, a special airplane of the Russian Emergencies Ministry took them to Moscow.

The commission to investigate the plane crash flew to Brazil with the black boxes on December 29. CNN Brasil reported that the flight recorders will arrive in Brazil on December 31. It was specified that together with CENIPA investigators, nine foreign technicians will take part in the decoding: three from Kazakhstan, three from Azerbaijan and three from Russia. Preliminary results of the investigation into the crash of Azal Air will be made public within 30 days.

January 3, Kazakh President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev said that the black boxes from the crashed plane were sent to Brazil to ensure the objectivity of the investigation.
