Pope Francis has criticized a group of nuns from the Union of St. Catherine of Siena Mission School for "vinegar faces" and urged them to be more welcoming. The Times reported on January 5.

He said such facial expressions give the impression of unfriendliness.

"It's not something that helps attract people. Vinegar is disgusting, and nuns with vinegar faces - I won't even talk about it," the publication quoted Francis as saying.

In addition, the head of the Catholic Church urged the representatives of the religious community to avoid gossip, emphasizing that speculation can kill and poison.

Earlier, in December 2024, Pope Francis in his annual Christmas message reprimanded Vatican employees for gossip. According to the pontiff, speculation is an evil that destroys public life, poisons people's hearts and leads to nothing. The Pope also called on people to say criticism to his face, not behind his back.
