- It became known about the beginning of confiscation of property of ex-minister Abyzov
Bailiffs have started the procedure for confiscating the property of former Minister for Open Government Mikhail Abyzov. This was reported by TASS on January 6 with reference to the case materials.
It is specified that seven enforcement proceedings were opened against the former minister from 2020 to 2024. His property worth Br23.5 billion is subject to seizure, he will also have to pay enforcement fees and debt in the amount of Br2.4 billion. Abyzov's total debt amounts to 28 billion rubles.
Abyzov was arrested in the spring of 2019. In addition to him, several other people were involved in the case. The criminal case on money laundering on a particularly large scale (part 4 of article 174 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and illegal entrepreneurial activity (article 289 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) is based on the embezzlement of 4 billion rubles from the companies JSC Siberian Energy Company ("Sibeko") and RPP, which are the leading energy suppliers in the Novosibirsk region.
In October 2020, the accounts of Abyzov and his former wife Ekaterina Sirotenko were seized. In August 2021, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office filed a lawsuit against Abyzov and Alfa Bank to recover more than $126 million in favor of the state. The state prosecution demanded that the former minister be sentenced to 19.5 years in prison.
Moscow's Preobrazhensky Court sentenced Abyzov to 12 years in a strict regime colony on December 21, 2023. In addition, the court ruled to recover from Abyzov and other defendants in his case property worth 1.5 billion rubles, securities and currency.
In October 2024, the Moscow City Court approved the sentence of former Open Government Minister Mikhail Abyzov to 12 years' imprisonment in the criminal association case. At the same time, the lawyer of the injured party asked the court to pay attention to mitigating circumstances. Abyzov, in turn, said in his last word that he had made reconciliation with the victim.
