A ballistic missile was allegedly launched from the territory of North Korea into the East Sea. This was reported by the Japan Coast Guard on January 6.
"According to the Defense Ministry, a possible ballistic missile was launched from the territory of Korea," the report said.
Six minutes later, the Japanese Coast Guard, citing the country's defense ministry, added that "a possible ballistic missile launched from the DPRK is believed to have already fallen."
The Japanese Coast Guard has asked ship crews to pay attention to incoming information. In case they notice a falling object, do not approach it and report the relevant information to the special services.
In turn, NHK TV channel, citing several government officials, reported that the missile fell outside Japan's exclusive economic zone in the Sea of Japan. The government is assembling an emergency team to gather information and assess the damage, the publication noted.
Earlier, on November 5 last year, Japan's coast guard reported that the DPRK had launched a suspected ballistic missile. Later, the agency reported the fall of the missile. At the same time, the Japanese Defense Ministry specified that at least seven missiles were launched from the DPRK, the flight altitude of which was about 100 km, and the range - about 400 km. Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba noted that there was no confirmed information about the damage.
