Slovak Deputy Speaker Andrej Danko's visit to Moscow in January may help restore dialog with Russia. He said this on January 5 on the air of TA3 TV channel.

"Robert Fitzo went (to the Russian Federation on December 22, 2024. - Ed.), started this dialog, and we at the level of parliament will develop this dialog. I see nothing wrong with the Slovak leader in Russia to express our position," he said.

Danko indicated that he plans to meet personally with the chairman of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, as well as to hold visits at the ministerial level. According to Danko, his goal is to "open the eyes of people in Slovakia."

"[In Slovakia] it is stated that no German and American companies are trading in Russia, we have to talk to these partners in the Russian Federation, because big states talk to them," Danko said.

Earlier on December 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Slovak Prime Minister Fitzo held talks in the Kremlin. Fitzo called his visit to Russia a reaction to Zelensky's statement about the termination of Russian gas transit to Europe. The Ukrainian conflict was one of the topics of the meeting.

Putin later said that during his visit to Moscow, Fitzo suggested making Slovakia a negotiating platform on Ukraine. The Russian side is not against such a scenario, the head of state clarified. Putin noted that Russia seeks to end the conflict, not to freeze it.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
