Approval of the victory of US President-elect Donald Trump will be held on January 6, despite the snowstorm looming on Washington. This was stated by the speaker of the lower house of Congress (House of Representatives) Republican Mike Johnson.

"The vote-counting law requires it to happen on January 6, so whether we have a snowstorm or not, we're going to be in this chamber and we're going to make sure it gets done," NBC News quoted him as saying.

At the same time, Johnson expressed concern about attendance and urged his colleagues not to leave town. He emphasized that the majority of the members of the House of Representatives and the Senate should be present on the floor to avoid possible objections to the process.

Earlier, on January 4, CNN reported on the predicted powerful storm in the central and eastern part of the United States. It was noted that it could become a threat to about 62 million Americans. Air masses will bring snow, ice, frost and winds up to 18 m / s in at least 12 American states. Thunderstorms and rain may occur in warmer regions.

On January 5, Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser said that the city had declared a state of emergency due to the impending storm. She urged residents to remove cars from emergency routes and stay home. Bowser also added that all Washington schools will be closed on January 6.

The election of the 47th American leader was held on November 5. They were won by Trump, receiving 51% of the vote.
