The Guardian reported on the risk of increased mortality due to addiction to antibiotics

"About one million people die each year due to the spread of antimicrobial resistance, and this figure will grow over the next 25 years. It's really scary," former chief medical officer of England Sally Davis told the publication.

According to the newspaper, scientists have found that by 2050, deaths due to drug resistance may double and reach 40 million people. The elderly are at risk. As Davis noted, the death rate among people over 70 has increased by 80% since 1990.

To combat the emergence of resistance, doctors try to minimize the prescribing of antibiotics as much as possible.

In such cases, the risk of survival and emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria is much higher.
