China says period of peak incidence of respiratory infections in China


In China, the period of peak spread of respiratory diseases, the causative agents of which are most often influenza viruses and Mycoplasma pneumoniae. This was announced by Wang Quan, Chief Physician of Beijing Children's Hospital, at a press conference on January 5.
Among the main symptoms in infected children she singled out fever, muscle and headache, cough, runny nose, as well as nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite.
The RIA Novosti news agency reported, citing Hu Qiangqiang, an official spokesman for China's State Health Committee, that the period of high morbidity is linked to the cold weather.
Earlier in the day, China's Office of Disease Control and Prevention, citing the results of respiratory samples analyzed from December 23 to 29, 2024, reported an outbreak of human metapneumovirus in the country. It noted that human metapneumovirus is actively spreading throughout China, mainly children under 14 years of age are exposed to the disease. People living in the northern provinces of the country are most often infected.
Also on January 5, Georgy Vikulov, candidate of medical sciences, director of the Research Center for Prevention and Treatment of Viral Infections, head of the herpes center of Moscow State University, immunologist-allergologist, infectious disease specialist, told "Izvestia" who is most exposed to the risk of infection with metapneumovirus and what is its incubation period.
