Pushilin told about the advance of Russian troops in Kurakhovo
The Russian Armed Forces (AF) have advanced in the northern part of Kurakhovo in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). This was reported by the head of the region, Denis Pushilin, on January 5.
He noted that in Kurakhovo itself the fighting continues, in the western part of the industrial zone of the city the liberation of territories is taking place.
"Also from the south we see active fighting, there is an advance in the northern part of Kurakhovo," Pushilin said in a video message published in his Telegram channel.
According to the DNR head, the successes of Russian fighters are noticeable "at the junction of Kurakhovo and Krasnoarmeysk," near the village of Slavyanka.
Earlier, on December 31, The New York Times said that the liberation of Kurakhovo could allow Russia to enter the industrial heart of Ukraine.
Before that, on December 18, it was reported that militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) were in a critical situation in Kurakhovo and their only supply route was under fire.
On the same day, the chairman of the Russian Public Chamber's commission on sovereignty issues and co-chairman of the coordination council for the integration of new regions, Vladimir Rogov, said that Russian servicemen had cleaned up the cauldron into which units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) grouping south of Kurakhovo had fallen.
At the same time, Izvestia showed Russian servicemen scattering leaflets over AFU positions in Kurakhovo. Each drone carries about 400 leaflets, which are scattered to the sound: "Lay down your arms voluntarily and come over to the side of Russia, Russian soldiers are not your enemies".
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
