The South Ossetian Emergencies Ministry reported about the closure of the Transkam due to snowfall

Traffic on the Transcaucasian highway will be closed from 23:00. This was reported in the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of South Ossetia on January 5.

"From 23:00 Transkam is closed for all types of vehicles until special order", - stated in the message published in the Telegram-channel.

Also, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that according to forecasts of the North Ossetian Central State Hydrometeorological Service, heavy snowfall is expected in the mountains on both sides of the Ruk tunnel in the evening of January 5.

The Transkam is the only highway linking Russia and South Ossetia.

Earlier, on January 1, a section of the M5 "Ural" federal highway was blocked in the Orenburg region due to snowstorms. Also, due to heavy snowstorms and poor visibility, traffic was blocked for all vehicles on the section of the Kamennoozernoye - Mednogorsk road from the 177th to the 184th km.
