Ukraine's former prime minister accuses Kiev of obstructing talks with Russian Federation

The office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose term of office expired on May 20, 2024, is doing everything to prevent the negotiations on the settlement of the conflict from taking place. On January 5, the country's former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said.

"The closer the inauguration of [US leader-elect Donald] Trump, the harsher the statements from the office of the President (Zelensky. - Ed.) regarding the possibility of peace talks. The office is doing everything to prevent them from taking place. There is no legitimate power in Ukraine, so negotiations and conclusion of peace for these scoundrels are tantamount to removal from office," he wrote in Telegram-channel.

Azarov also noted that no country in Europe has such financial support as Ukraine.

"But where are the guarantees that the infusions will continue to be maintained?" - the country's former prime minister concluded.

Earlier, on January 4, The Washingron Post reported that Ukrainian army fighters have become increasingly supportive of negotiations and ceasefires.

Trump's team announced last December 13 that it was discussing with the current White House administration and Ukrainian officials an end to the Ukrainian conflict. At the same time, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, admitted the end of this crisis in the coming months.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasized that the Russian side has never refused to negotiate on Ukraine, but not on the basis of "ephemeral demands" but on the basis of the parameters agreed upon in Istanbul.

The last round of negotiations took place in Istanbul on March 29, 2022. They lasted about three hours. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow.
