- The SZhR supported the idea of burying the dead Izvestiya military correspondent in the Alley of Heroes in the DNR

Izvestiya correspondent Alexander Martemyanov, who died in the special military operation zone, is to be buried in the Heroes' Alley in Donetsk. This was announced by Viktor Petrenko, chairman of the Union of Journalists of Russia (SZhR) in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), in a conversation with Izvestia on January 5.
He noted that Martemyanov was a professional in his field, who lived his work and helped people.
"Today all day long we have been calling our colleagues, journalists who work in Donetsk, in general in Donbass. Of course, no one wants to believe that such a tragedy has happened, that a professional in his field, Sasha Martemyanov, is not with us. Sasha lived work, lived volunteering," Petrenko pointed out.
The initiative to bury Martemyanov in the Alley of Heroes is supported by the SZhR central office in Moscow, its chairman Vladimir Solovyov, and the People's Council of the DNR parliament, he added.
A memorial dedicated to Martemyanov has also been opened in the Izvestia MIC building, where people bring flowers.
Izvestia correspondent Alexander Martemyanov was killed on January 4 when a Ukrainian army drone hit a car on the Donetsk-Gorlovka highway. He died of his wounds. As the Russian Ministry of Defense specified, RIA Novosti correspondents Maxim Romanenko and Mikhail Kevkhiev, Bloknot Donetsk editor Svetlana Larina and military correspondent Isabella Liberman also received shrapnel wounds as a result of the AFU attack.
Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), noted that Martemyanov's materials about Donbass "were brave and objective," and the journalist himself was always "at the forefront." At the same time, he not only filmed reports on events in Donbass, but also always provided assistance to the residents of the DNR. Donetsk Mayor Aleksei Kulyomzin added that Martemyanov's life was dedicated to the search for the truth.
On January 5, the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case under Articles 105, 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder and attempted murder of two or more persons", "Intentional damage to property").
Alexander Martemyanov worked as a correspondent for Izvestia since 2014. In 2023, he was wounded during shelling by the AFU in Donetsk, but returned to work after his recovery. Martemyanov was awarded the medal "For Bravery", the insignia "For Merit to the Donetsk People's Republic" III degree.
