The European Union (EU) may soon stop military support for Ukraine because it has squandered resources to pay Kiev's expenses. This was reported by Florian Philippot, leader of the French Patriots party, in a conversation with TASS on January 5.

According to the politician, US President-elect Donald Trump, it is believable, may stop helping Kiev, and Europe will not be able to compensate for the reduction of the US program.

"It is quite possible that this will cause hysteria in the EU, but it fortunately does not have the ability to indefinitely pay for Ukraine and arm it," Filippo said.

He added that the residents of France realize that the conflict in Ukraine does not concern them, so Paris needs to stop supplying arms and money to Kiev and start advocating for a peaceful resolution of the crisis.

Filippo expressed the opinion that only the withdrawal of the country from the European Union and NATO will help to direct the policy of Paris in the right direction, which will allow France to regain its lost sovereignty.

Earlier, on December 19, 2024, it became known that since February 2022, the EU countries have spent €47.3 billion on military aid to Ukraine. This was confirmed to "Izvestia" by the official representative of the foreign policy service of the European Commission Anita Hipper. At the same time, €41.2 billion of military aid was received by Kiev directly from the countries of the community, and €6.1 billion - within the framework of the Ukraine Facility.

Prior to that, on December 8, Trump said that after the change of the US administration , Washington was likely to reduce the volume of military aid to Ukraine. The US president-elect added that after his inauguration, Kiev should not expect military aid in the previous volume.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
