The number of victims in a road accident with a tourist bus in Karelia has increased to 14, the republic's Ministry of Health reported on January 5.

"As a result of the accident near the village of Lyaskelya, medics are providing assistance to 14 victims after the accident," reads the message published in the Telegram-channel of the Ministry.

All of them were hospitalized in the central hospitals of Pitkäranta and Sortavala, two are in a serious condition, two more - in a condition of medium severity. Additional medical aid has been sent to Pitkyaranta, a heating station has been deployed.

The Sortavala inter-district investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Karelia initiated a criminal case under Part 1 Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet safety requirements").

Earlier in the day near the village of Lyaskelya on the 301st km of the highway A-121 "Sortavala" in Karelia overturned tourist bus, it had two drivers and 42 passengers, four of them - children. The police said that the driver failed to control the vehicle on a bend, after which the vehicle went into a ditch and overturned.
