- Switzerland says some Ukrainians agree to give up Russian territory in exchange for peace

The idea of ceding part of the country's territory to Russia in exchange for peace seems to have captured the minds of many people in Ukraine, the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) has reported on 4 January. This was reported by the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) on January 4.
"The idea of ceding part of Ukrainian territory in exchange for peace seems to have taken hold in the minds of many Ukrainians," Gazeta.Ru quoted the author of the article as saying.
US President-elect Donald Trump, who will officially take office on January 20, intends to immediately send his special envoy Keith Kellogg to Ukraine. Details of this visit are kept secret, but it is known that the US will advocate for the end of the conflict.
"Kellogg, an 80-year-old former general and Trump supporter, will deliver exactly this message when he steps off the train in Kiev: a peace agreement with Russia must be reached and as soon as possible," the media outlet notes.
Earlier, on December 26 last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia seeks to end the conflict in Ukraine, not to freeze it. The head of state commented on the information about the possible end of the conflict in 2025 with a Russian proverb: "That's what they say among our people, yes, you should drink honey with your mouth".
Before that, on December 16, Trump said that he intends to initiate talks with Putin and Zelensky on the settlement of the conflict. On December 13, Trump's team said it was negotiating with the current White House administration and Ukrainian officials to end the conflict in Ukraine. On the same day, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg allowed the conflict in Ukraine to end in the coming months.
On December 3, Kellogg 's plan to resolve the Ukrainian conflict was published. He proposed to end the political isolation of the Russian Federation, as well as to retain the territories liberated by Russia. In addition, he proposed a long postponement of the issue of Ukraine's accession to NATO. At the same time, his plan includes continuing military support for Kiev and providing it with security guarantees.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
