- A fire broke out in a mountainous and forested area near a 12th century monastery in Armenia

A mountainous forested area in Dilijan National Park near the village of Akhavnavank, where a medieval monastery is located, caught fire in Armenia. This was reported in the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country on January 5.
They specified that the fire was reported at 8:00 (7:00 Moscow time). About 90 rescuers were involved in extinguishing the fire.
"Access roads for vehicles are absent, firefighters reach on foot. Kamo Tsutsulyan, the director of the rescue service - Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, has left for the scene," the RIA Novosti news agency quoted the Armenian Interior Ministry's press service as saying.
The monastery, located near the village of Akhavnavank, dates back to the XII-XIII centuries. It is surrounded by a famous yew grove, which is about 400 years old.
Earlier, on January 3, 700 square meters of dry grass caught fire on the mountainside near the town of Tyrnyauz in the Elbrus region of Kabardino-Balkaria. The main regional department of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations noted that extinguishing the fire was complicated by the inaccessibility of the terrain and the difficulty of accessing equipment.
