Since October 1, 30 cases of metapneumovirus have been detected in Kazakhstan
In Kazakhstan since October 1, 2024 identified 30 cases of metapneumovirus (HMPV), which refers to acute respiratory viral infections. This was reported by the Ministry of Health of the Republic on January 5.
"Human metapneumovirus is one of the classical viruses circulating in many countries for decades", - stated in the message published in the Telegram-channel of the department.
It is specified that strains of this virus were detected in Kazakhstan together with other types of infections, which are particularly active during the seasonal acute respiratory viral infections and influenza. Since the beginning of the viral season was examined 8360 samples for non-influenza viruses.
"Of these (8360 samples. - Ed.) revealed 1866 (22%) positive samples, including the greatest prevalence of rhinovirus - 680 samples, or 36.4%, then RS (respiratory syncytial. - Ed.) virus - 433 (23.2%), adenovirus - 226 (12.1%), coronavirus - 206 (11.1%), parainfluenza - 178 (9.5%), bocavirus - 113 (6.1%) and lastly metapneumovirus - 30 (1.6%)", - added in the material.
The Ministry of Health reminded that metapneumovirus is transmitted by airborne droplets and in rare cases - household contact.
The main symptoms of infection are cough, runny nose, shortness of breath, fever, headache.
Earlier in the day, China's Department of Disease Control and Prevention, citing the results of respiratory samples analyzed from December 23 to 29, 2024, reported an outbreak of human metapneumovirus in the country. It noted that human metapneumovirus is actively spreading throughout China and mainly children under 14 years of age are exposed to the disease. People living in the northern provinces of the country are most often infected.
