The Investigative Committee has completed the investigation into the case of two AFU soldiers taken prisoner in Kursk region

The investigation into the criminal case against two fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Ignatenko and Maslyukov, who were taken prisoner in Kursk Region, has been completed. This was reported by the press service of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation on January 5.

According to the investigation, last August the mentioned military men illegally crossed the state border of the Russian Federation. They had AK-74 and AKM assault rifles, UAR-10M semi-automatic sniper rifles and explosive devices with them. Both militants intimidated the local population, occupied private homes, prohibited civilians from traveling, and repeatedly opened fire on Russian Armed Forces (AF) soldiers and civilians.

On September 26, both militants were captured by Russian fighters.

"Currently, both defendants are in a place of detention of prisoners of war," reads a statement published in the IC's Telegram channel.

On the eve of two more fighters of the 95 separate airborne assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), who were taken prisoner, were charged with committing terrorist acts (paragraphs "a", "v" of part 2 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) on the territory of the Kursk region.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
