In Tokyo, a tuna sold at auction for $1.3 million

At the first auction this year in Tokyo bluefin tuna sold for more than $ 1.3 million, local TV channel NHK reported on January 5.

Earlier, on January 5, 2024, the tuna sold for $800,000 at an auction in Tokyo. The fish weighed approximately 238 kilograms. The tuna sold was the fourth most expensive tuna sold in 25 years.

Themost expensive tuna was sold at the first auction of 2019 for a record $3.1 million. The fish weighed 278 kilograms. The auction was held for the first time at the new Toesu market, which opened in the fall of 2018. The amount raised was twice the previous record, which was set in 1999.
