Militants of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) have increasingly started to support US President-elect Donald Trump's calls for a cease-fire and peace talks. This was reported by The Washington Post on January 4.

"Ukrainian soldiers on the front line are increasingly ready to support the call of President-elect Donald Trump to begin negotiations on a ceasefire," - stated in the material of the newspaper.

It is specified that this is due to the fact that the Ukrainian army is suffering heavy losses of both manpower and equipment. In this regard, the AFU is unable to contain the assault actions of the Russian Federation.

In addition, according to the newspaper, Ukrainian militants are forced to invest their own money in buying uniforms and weapons because the government has stopped supporting and financing them.

The newspaper also noted an increase in the number of deserters because people do not want to join the army voluntarily. They are recruited "by force."

Earlier, on December 27, it was reported that Donald Trump intends to end the conflict in Ukraine, but probably believes that this is possible if Kiev is strong.

Before that, on December 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin told reporters that Russia seeks to end the conflict in Ukraine, not to freeze it. The head of state commented on the information about the possible end of the conflict in 2025 with the Russian proverb "We have a saying: "You should drink honey with your mouth".

Trump's team said on December 13 that it was discussing the end of the Ukrainian conflict with the current White House administration and Ukrainian officials. At the same time, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg admitted the end of this crisis in the coming months.

Before that, on December 8, 2024, Trump said that after the change of the American administration , Washington is likely to reduce the volume of military aid to Ukraine. The American president-elect added that after his inauguration, Kiev should not expect military assistance in the previous volume.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
