New increased rates of fines for traffic violations are effective from January 1, 2025. Maria Yakovleva, Director of the Yakovlev & Partners Law Group, told about it on January 5.

"The main emphasis is placed on the fight against speeding, which accounts for more than 70% of all traffic violations, as well as on serious offenses related to traffic accidents and the state of intoxication of drivers," the expert pointed out in a conversation with the agency "Prime".

As Yakovleva noted, the average amount of fines will increase one and a half times. Rates will also increase for red light running, violation of parking and stopping rules, lack of MTPL insurance.

"The increase in fines has long been expected due to inflation, but stricter payment terms may increase financial pressure on drivers," she added.

In addition, according to the expert, the discount for quick payment of a fine will be reduced from 50 to 25%.

The law on increasing fines for a number of traffic violations was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 26, 2024. Thus, for the most frequent violation - speeding 20-40 km / h - will now be fined 750 rubles instead of 500 rubles. In addition, 30 days instead of 20 will be given to pay the fine with a discount.

Earlier, on December 19, 2024, the Federation Council supported the increase in fines for traffic violations. Amendments to increase fines for traffic violations were adopted by the State Duma in the 2nd and 3rd readings on December 12.
