British Prime Minister Keir Starmer intends to hold a meeting with US President-elect Donald Trump in Washington after his inauguration in order to persuade him to continue supplying arms to Ukraine. This was reported by The Times on January 4.

It is specified that Starmer is planning a trip to the US in late January or early February. He also plans to discuss diplomatic relations with China.

According to the newspaper, Starmer opposes the imposition of tariffs against Beijing, but is confident in the threat to the national security of the United States and Britain from China.

Earlier, on December 26, 2024, Duma deputy Alexander Tolmachev, in a conversation with Izvestia, pointed to the fatigue of US citizens from financing the Kiev regime. At the same time, he did not rule out that with the departure of the country's current President Joe Biden, Washington's assistance to Kiev may end.

On December 22, 2024, Trump said that he was waiting for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to start negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. The Republican added that if he were in Biden's shoes, he would not have allowed such a crisis at all.

On December 13, 2024, it became known that Biden had approved a $988 million aid package for Ukraine. John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, said that the United States would provide additional military support to Kiev "until the end of the term" of the Biden administration.

Prior to that, on December 8, 2024, Trump said that Washington would likely reduce military aid to Ukraine after the change of the US administration. The US president-elect added that Kiev should not expect military aid in the previous volume after his inauguration.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
