IDF says rocket from Gaza damaged humanitarian aid checkpoints

A rocket launched from the Gaza Strip in the evening of January 4 damaged the Erez checkpoint, through which humanitarian aid was delivered to the Palestinian enclave. This was reported on January 4 in the press service of the Israeli army.
According to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the projectile impact caused damage to the border crossing and a nearby parking lot for humanitarian aid trucks.
"We emphasize that since the beginning of December [last year], more than 1,200 humanitarian aid trucks have entered the Gaza Strip through the Erez crossing <...> with food, water, medical supplies and shelter equipment," the IDF said in a statement on its Telegram channel.
The press service of the Israeli army noted: despite the incident, "will continue to act in accordance with international law to enable and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip."
Earlier, on January 2, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics reported that the population of the Gaza Strip has decreased by 6% since October 2023. According to the country's health ministry, of the 45,484 Palestinians killed in Gaza, some 17,581 were children and 12,048 were women. It was noted that about 11,000 more were reported missing.
Prior to that, on December 2, 2024, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) reported the suspension of humanitarian aid deliveries through the Kerem Shalom crossing point (KPP) on the Palestinian-Israeli border. It was noted that the road from Kerem Shalom had posed a security threat to the organization's staff for several months.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
