Likhachev declared the situation at ZNPP safe from the point of view of nuclear technologies

The situation at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant (NPP) is under full control in terms of nuclear technology. This was reported by Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev on January 4.

"I want to say right away that the entire situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is under full control in terms of nuclear technology," Likhachev said on air of the Rossiya 24 TV channel.

He specified that the revival of the city of Energodar continues despite the ongoing shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) of the coastlines and the territory of the NPP.

"We have three times more school graduates in 2024 than in 2023. This means people are coming back, children are coming back," Likhachev noted.

He added that the city is also fully supported by the "nuclear family." According to Likhachev, all possible efforts are directed at improving the city's infrastructure.

Earlier, on December 29, 2024, the first deputy head of the Russian presidential administration, Sergei Kiriyenko, urged to prepare for the fastest possible launch of ZNPP's six units. He added that the main task for 2025 is to ensure NPP safety and prepare the units for generation mode.

Last September, the head of Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev, said that Russia was ready to start work on restarting ZNPP. He emphasized that nuclear and physical safety of ZNPP is an unconditional priority for the Russian side. The plant is provided with stable heat, water and power supply, and experienced personnel are also on site. In addition, priority is given to the development of the social infrastructure of the city of Energodar.

Zaporizhzhya Oblast, where the nuclear power plant is located, became part of the Russian Federation following a referendum in September 2022. Since that time, Zaporizhzhya NPP has been under constant IAEA control.
