Court arrests two men for setting fire to electric trains in Moscow Region

On January 4, Moscow 's Ostankinsky court sent two men into custody who are accused of setting fire to two electric trains in Moscow Region. This is reported by TASS with reference to the case file.

The attackers were remanded in custody until February 28, 2025.

The men are charged with attempted terrorist act, as well as a terrorist act committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy.

From the case file it follows that the arrested on December 30, 2024 set fire to two trains at two stations of the Savelovsky direction of the Moscow railroad. As RBC specifies, the arson attacks were committed at the stations of Dmitrov and Lobnya.

According to the detainees, they were contacted by an unknown person in the messenger Telegram. For their crimes, he promised a reward of 100 thousand rubles, and also demanded a video with evidence of arson. However, after completing the task, the unknown person stopped contacting the men.

The attackers were detained on video surveillance cameras.

In December last year, a 17-year-old resident of Sestroretsk was detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of arson at a communications office. The young man threw a bottle with a flammable liquid and a lit wick into the window of the communication office, as a result of which the metal frame of the window from the outside melted. There were no victims. A criminal case has been opened. It has been established that the teenager acted on the instructions of unknown persons who contacted him by telephone.
