Crimea points to US unleashing gas war against Europe

TheUSA, using Ukraine, has actually unleashed a gas war against Europe. This opinion was shared by the head of the parliament of the Republic of Crimea, Vladimir Konstantinov, on January 4.
"The US has actually unleashed a gas war against Europe by the hands of the Kiev regime. All this is predictable. Now let the EU countries spill what they themselves have boiled," RIA Novosti quoted Konstantinov as saying.
He also added that undermining the Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 pipelines and stopping gas transit through Ukraine are interrelated actions, and the U.S. wants to increase the European Union's dependence on U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies.
On January 1, 2025, Gazprom stopped supplying fuel to Europe through the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
At the same time, a representative of the European Commission said that the European Commission is ready to stop gas transit because the EU gas infrastructure is flexible enough to supply gas of non-Russian origin to Central and Eastern Europe via alternative routes.
For his part, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo noted that stopping Russian gas transit through Ukraine would have drastic consequences for the European Union, but not for Russia. Later, he said that if the gas transit agreement was not extended, Slovakia would stop supplying Ukraine with electricity because it was blocking the receipt of gas.
Later, Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksandr Dubinskyy said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (whose term of office expired on May 20) was destroying Ukraine's economy with his decision to stop the transit of Russian gas to Europe. The situation will benefit "American and Qatari LNG traders".
Last August, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (whose term expired on May 20) said that the country would not extend the gas transit agreement with Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin later said that Russia was not giving up gas transit through Ukraine.
However, it was reported in December that Zelenskyy said that he agreed to transit Russian gas through Ukraine only if Western countries do not pay Russia for the fuel until the conflict ends.
