The crew of a Su-34 multirole supersonic fighter-bomber of the Air and Space Forces (AFS) has struck personnel and a stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in a border area of Kursk Region. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 4.

"The strike was carried out on reconnaissance targets with aircraft bombs with a universal planning and correction module (UMPK)," the defense ministry said in a statement.

After the reconnaissance confirmed the destruction of personnel and a Ukrainian militant stronghold, the Su-34 crew returned to the departure airfield.

Earlier in the day, the North group of troops destroyed an enemy tank with a Lancet barrage munition in a wooded area near a settlement in the border region of Kursk. The ministry added that the Lancet hit was direct and destroyed the tank.

Ukraine's armed forces attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. Ukrainian militants who invaded Russian territory are being liquidated.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian President on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
