The AFU lost more than 540 servicemen on the Kursk direction over the day
The losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) in the Kursk region amounted to over 540 servicemen. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 4.
"Units of the "North" troop grouping during offensive actions defeated the formations of heavy mechanized, tank, three mechanized, two airborne assault brigades, a brigade of marines, four brigades of territorial defense and the center of the SSO (Special Operations Forces. - Ed.) "South" of the AFU," the defense ministry said in a statement.
Operational-tactical army aviation and artillery forces struck and hit the enemy's manpower and equipment.
"Over the day the losses of the AFU amounted to more than 540 servicemen, destroyed four tanks, infantry fighting vehicle, armored personnel carrier, 25 armored combat vehicles, 49 vehicles, artillery gun and four mortars", - added in the Defense Ministry.
It is noted that in total during the fighting in the Kursk direction the AFU lost more than 47,810 soldiers, 267 tanks, 205 BMPs, 147 armored personnel carriers, 1,418 armored combat vehicles.
"The operation to destroy the AFU formations continues," the ministry concluded.
On the eve, the Defense Ministry reported that calculations of D-30 howitzers destroyed equipment and positions of the AFU in the Kursk border area. After destroying the targets, the artillerymen rolled up and camouflaged the guns, preventing the enemy from detecting their positions.
Ukraine 's armed forces attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. Ukrainian militants who invaded Russian territory are being liquidated.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian President on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
