Damascus airport will resume receiving and dispatching international flights from January 7. This was announced by the head of the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority Ashhad al-Salibi on January 4.
"We announce the start of receiving and dispatching international flights at Damascus International Airport from January 7, 2025," al-Salibi said. His words were quoted by the SANA news agency in its Telegram channel.
Earlier, on January 2, Qatar Airways announced the resumption of flights to Syria from January 7.
December 13, it was reported that in the Syrian cities of Damascus and Aleppo resumed work closed since December 8 airports, but so far only by special permits.
On December 8, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after negotiations with the opposition, left the post of head of state and left the country, instructing to carry out the transfer of power peacefully.
On the same day, the national coalition of revolutionary and opposition forces of Syria announced the work on the formation of a transitional authority. In turn, Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali said that most of the ministers of the Syrian government remain in Damascus, and he himself is ready to cooperate with any elected leadership.
The situation in Syria has escalated as a result of a major attack by armed formations in Aleppo and Idlib, which began on November 28 and led to the Syrian army's retaliatory actions against the militants.
