Sevastopol declares regional state of emergency after fuel oil discharge


A regional emergency regime has been declared in Sevastopol due to the release of fuel oil from the wrecked tankers in the Kerch Bay. This was announced by the Governor of the city Mikhail Razvozhayev on January 4.
"Operational headquarters on the situation I head personally, today in Sevastopol declared a state of emergency of regional importance," he wrote in his Telegram-channel.
Razvozhayev specified that there is no mass pollution of the coastline in Sevastopol, but in different places there are still traces of fuel oil. Specialists will promptly eliminate them.
Earlier on January 4, Razvozhayev noted that the advance of fuel oil after the crash of tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" in the Black Sea is fixed to the north along the Crimean coast. He said that as part of the work of the operational headquarters will be organized "breakdown of the territory" to clean up traces of oil products. Before that, on January 3, he said that in Sevastopol at the entrance to the Balaklava Bay found an oil slick after the crash of a tanker in the Black Sea.
On January 2, the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation said that 2.4 thousand tons of oil products had fallen into the Black Sea after the crash of the tankers.
The tankers Volgoneft-212 andVolgoneft-239crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15 due to bad weather. As a result of the incident there was a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels. It was specified that one person died. On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group has been set up to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the accident.
