- Moldovan authorities intend to deprive citizens who have not paid their utility bills of compensation

In Moldova, the authorities intend to deprive citizens of financial assistance for non-payment of public utilities in connection with the rise in gas prices and the energy crisis on the territory of the republic. This was announced by the Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu on air of RliveTV channel.
"For the most part, citizens pay the bills. We talked to suppliers and the Ministry of Energy and decided that if the level of non-payment becomes higher, we will consider possible measures. For example, for those who do not pay or are severely delayed in payments, one of the options could be deprivation of compensation," Buzu said on air on January 3.
He also emphasized that at the moment none of the citizens have been deprived of compensations.
On January 1, centralized heating was cut off in Transnistria after Gazprom stopped supplying Russian gas through Ukraine. Gas stopped flowing to Moldova as well because of the country's unpaid debts. In turn, Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean did not recognize the debt and threatened to sue.
The day before, energy expert Sergei Ungureanu told Izvestia that Moldova has a difficult situation in the energy sector, and the purchase of electricity from Europe will hit the country's economy. He noted that Moldova had not agreed to continue gas transit through Ukraine, which meant that Transnistria would not receive it and would not be able to produce enough cheap electricity.
